BGLife Barley Partners with Nourish America to Help Fight Hunger Published: May 15, 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kevin Hodges Mary Morton Phoenix Agri Research Nourish America kevin@phoenixagri.com mary@nourishamerica.org (208) 523-3444 (805) 715-2693 BGLife™ Barley Partners with Nourish America to Help Fight Hunger with Nutrient-Dense Barley Donation Thousands of Low Income Families In Need Have Benefited SANTA BARBARA, CA (May 15, 2008) With more than 12 million children in America going to bed hungry every night, malnutrition is a vital issue affecting millions of families across the US and threatening our nation’s future. Nourish America, an award winning charity is working to address America’s hunger by providing healthy food and vitamins supplements to those in need across the United States. BGLife™ Barley recently joined in Nourish America’s effort with a contribution of 3,600 packages of BGLife’s Whole-Control Cereal from Phoenix Agri Research. Barley is a high-fiber and low-fat whole grain, naturally effective in protecting against Type 2 Diabetes, weight management, satiation, blood pressure control, certain cancers, and protection against cardiovascular disease. Through Nourish America, the residents of the American Housing Foundation projects in Texas, Arizona, Florida, and Oklahoma as well as clients of the Center for People in Need in Lincoln, Nebraska received the many benefits of this product. The risk of diabetes in America is alarming, says Ron Ueland, president of Phoenix Agri Research. We support Nourish America’s mission to improve the health status at risk of malnutrition. We are pleased to donate a wholesome, healthy food product to those who need it most. American Housing Foundation is proud to partner with Nourish America and BGLife Barley to help meet the nutritional needs of our residents. Good nutrition is critical to the overall health and wellbeing of our residents, many of whom live on extremely limited resources. The barley cereal will directly benefit families and individuals in need in over 50 communities in 5 states. These people would most likely not ever be able to afford such a high quality, organic product for their families. American Housing Foundation is grateful for the opportunity to be part of this collaboration in order to enhance the quality of life of our residents, says Suzanne Wendt, Resident Services Regional Director. Families at American Housing Foundation also receive daily multivitamins for children from Nourish America. This work is far too vast for any one organization to tackle by itself. It takes partnerships like this one to make an impact on malnutrition in the United States. We deeply thank BGLife Barley for their generosity and American Housing Foundation and the Center for People in Need for their support in making this donation a successful example of how companies and organizations working together can improve the lives of the many in need in America, states Michael Morton, Executive Director. Resident response to the barley distribution has been phenomenal! We have had parents and seniors coming in and asking for several bags after they have sampled the first one they received. Unfortunately, diabetes is a disease that we hear about at all of our properties. Residents who are in that battle have really expressed great enthusiasm and gratitude for the barley. One resident in Austin, Texas shared her success with baking oat bread with the barley. She said that her kids loved it and she felt great knowing that she was providing them a nutritional snack, not junk food. Thank you to BGLife Barley and Nourish America for enabling us to assist our families with their nutritional needs, said Ms. Wendt.
